Personal Care Assistant's for 32 y/o Bristol man £14-£17.50/hr

Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: 57a39a6e

Hi, I’m Mitch! I'm a 32 year old male, I get my down days, but like to try and get the most out of life. I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and use an electric wheelchair. I run care packages for myself and my children, as I have full capacity and manage all relevant affairs. I write my own lifestyle blog (8+ years), I love all types of music, films and getting out and about in and around the local community.

I live in the Cheswick Village area of Stoke Gifford in Bristol, next to the University of the West of England Frenchay Campus in a purpose built, specially adapted bungalow with my 2 young children, 8 and 6 (who have their own Parental Support Workers – Nannies to facilitate my parental role and won't be your direct responsibility). We also have an older dog; a friendly Black Labrador called Bella, who likes to go on walks. I require full-time 1-to-1 support with all of my day-to-day complex care needs; as directed by myself for myself, my children and my pet, with a person centred approach to care.

I'm looking for highly skilled, flexible and energetic Personal Care Assistant's (PCA's) who don't take themselves too seriously and understand / commit to their role fully and appreciate the roles of others within the wider team including myself, to join my fantastic and varied team of male and female staff, for some or all of the hours I have available. Between 24 and 36 hours per week contracts, plus potential ad hoc and last minute shifts to cover staff Annual Leave and / or sickness, if interested and when possible (you'll receive double pay, if you're given less than 48 hours notice).

Pay (paid monthly - PAYE bank transfer by myself through payroll charity WECIL):
£17.00 per hour on Weekends
£15.00 per hour on Weekdays
£34.00 per hour on Bank Holiday Days.

£18.00 per hour on Weekend Waking Nights.
£16.00 per hour on Weekday Waking Nights.
£36.00 per hour on Bank Holiday Waking Nights.

Days available:
Every Wednesday 09:00 - 21:00.
Every Thursday 09:00 - 21:00.
Every Thursday 09:00 - 21:00.
Every other Saturday 09:00 - 21:00.
Every other Sunday 09:00 - 21:00.

Waking Nights (must be awake all night) available:
Every other Thursday 21:00 - 09:00.
Every or every other Friday 21:00 - 09:00.
Every or every other Saturday 21:00 - 09:00.
Every Sunday 21:00 - 09:00.

Candidates must:
- Have an up-to-date enhanced DBS Check for Adults and Children; clear of any criminal convictions and I must be informed of all future criminal offences (a DBS can be provided free of charge).
- Preferably have a Full UK Driver's Licence, with no driving convictions and I must be informed of all future driving offences; there is off street parking.
- Complete mandatory online respiratory training via video conference on Microsoft Teams with the NIV nurses from the NIV Team at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), for all of my specialist respiratory equipment.
- Have a love for adventures and getting out and about!

The role includes all of my Personal Care needs as directed by myself, such as:
- Toileting using a urine bottle (no catheter) or hoisting over the toilet.
- Washing, dressing and oral hygiene.
- Moving and handling (using a slide sheet and a profiling hospital bed, with an airflow mattress).
- Transferring in and out of my wheelchair or shower chair with a ceiling track hoist (which is operated by x1 PCA).
- Safe administration of oral / inhaled medications, counting and completion of medication (MAR) charts and communications sheets digitally, using Google Sheets on your smart phone.
- The use of a Non-Invasive Ventilator to support my breathing throughout the day and night, Nebulizer to help open the airways, a Cough Assist machine to bring up any mucus and a Suction machine in some cases, especially if unwell. These machines must be well maintained, always with enough battery to ensure my safety.
- Food preparation as directed by myself, support with eating (cutting and putting in my mouth) and drinking through a straw (no PEG feed), with encouragement from staff to eat and drink regularly. I also take nutritional supplements (Fortisips drinks) 2 - 3 times daily alongside my regular soft diet.
- Initiative with domestic household tasks as directed by myself i.e. cleaning respiratory equipment, weekly, hoovering, mopping, washing, ironing, cleaning windows, light gardening like cutting the grass etc.
- Support with social events arranged by myself i.e. socialising with my children and my friends and family, daily errands like grocery shopping or picking up my prescriptions, days out, attending concerts and trips away etc.
