Lichfield, Staffordshire - up to 10 flexible hours per week

Supporting energetic male young person to engage in community activities, help support their social interactions, friendships, promote their wellbeing and develop practical life skills.
This is a hybrid role. One session a week will be spent with the young person, taking them out in the community. The remaining hours will be allocated to sourcing of activities and social opportunities in the area, including visiting venues to assess suitability. Follow-up reviews of opportunities with the young person’s support network required to ensure the young person is achieving positive outcomes against their development plan.


Experience
Will suit someone studying for a qualification in Youth or Social Work or a Teaching Assistant role, with an interest in working with SEND population. The position provides direct experience and maybe considered as counting towards part of the applicant’s practical work experience hours needed for their qualification. The applicant will understand teenager’s interests, developmental stages and be able to connect at a young person’s level. Relationship building is key. They will have a sense of humour, energy, demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach to problem solving and planning and think “out-side of the box”. An interest in working with special needs population and open to understanding the adaptations needed for young people with differences such as Autism, ADHD and trauma.
The role
Will make a difference in a young person’s life and wellbeing. The work can be fun and engaging. You will work with an outgoing teenage male who is being supported by Children’s Disability Social Services through a Child in Need plan. The role requires working in an independent and proactive manner to support access to community provisions and social opportunities. You will plan and organise activities, make adaptions so outings and experiences can be positive. Activities may include recreational venues, bike rides, fitness gaming and music and social events. Your skills at building a trusting relationship and confidence in others is key. You will help support life skills such as food preparation, self-care and budgeting of money.
During outings you will support the young person in navigating social situations with peers and be vigilant to environment factors that might impact on their sensory needs and emotional regulation. You will be employed directly with a family but liaise closely as part of a support team across educational, health and social care. Monitoring provisions and progress on outcomes in the Young Person’s plans. Your ideas and observations will matter.
The position is hourly paid and travel expenses/mileage will also be covered.
