An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced children's nurse to join the Special School Nursing team based at Summerdown School.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled senior nurse to compliment the nursing team. The nursing team work collaboratively with education and therapy colleagues and are supported by the wider Women's and Children division.

This would be an ideal opportunity for an acute or community based children's nurse to use their extensive nursing skills and knowledge in a new capacity within an educational environment.

Full induction, orientation and training will be developed to ensure it meets the individual needs of the successful candidate.

The Special School Nursing Team operates within two special education needs schools, supporting children and young people who have complex needs including learning disabilities, long-term and life-limiting health conditions.

To ensure the children and young people can access statutory education, the team works in close partnership with children, their families/carers, school staff, other health and social care professionals ensuring that the Child’s health needs are supported, both within the school setting, home and in the wider community.

This post is being offered as a term time contract.



· Work in partnership with professionalsto ensure specialist care is delivered to pupils both effectively and efficiently.

· Assess health needs of the pupils, creating care plans as needed, reviewing, and updating as identified. These care plans describe the health needs of the child that need to be delivered to the in school.



· Delegate care and train school staff through a robust process of training and competency assessment, that enables pupils with health needs to assess education – this includes gastrostomy training/ feeds for school staff, oral suction, management of oxygen , administration of medication , catheterisation , tracheostomy care and emergency tracheostomy changes, epilepsy management and emergency medication, basic life support and how to use a bag valve mask.



· The nursing team are also responsible for any emergency/ health care needs required through out the day for the Southfield centre pupils – following plans from the specialist teams for epilepsy and dystonia or respiratory along side the day to day concerns support required by school staff.

·

· Advise on medication concerns such as safe storage, dosage, labelling, side effects as well as transcribe onto the MAR charts and administer any PRN medications required during the day. This can include following pain management plans or dystonia plans throughout the day.
