We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a developmental role of acute oncology clinical nurse specialist. The successful candidate will start as a band 6 and then once they achieve agreed competencies as, they will rise to band 7. Support and training will be given to the successful candidate to help them achieve the necessary knowledge and skills for this.

The acute oncology CNS will work with existing members of the team to deliver a high standard acute oncology service at DCH. The service provides acute care and support for those people affected by cancer. The post holder will also play an active role in the education and support of other clinical teams around the trust and in primary care who are involved in caring for patients with cancer and associated problems.

This post would be best suited to an experienced band 5 or 6 nurse who has at least 2 years experience in an acute setting caring for patients affected by cancer. The successful candidate will be supported to use their extended nursing skills on a regular basis assuming they have the necessary education, skills and competence and in line with NMC and trust policy.

There will be opportunity to access degree and/or masters level education and acute oncology training for candidates who do not currently have this level of education.

Includes:

Telephone assessment and triage using the UKONS triage tool kit.

Follow-up of calls made to the acute oncology triage phone.

Post emergency attendance but not admission follow up as assessed appropriate as per National Guidance.
