Perinatal Mental illness affects 20% of women during pregnancy and the first year following the birth of a child. If left untreated it can have significant and long-lasting effects on women and families. An exciting opportunity has arisen at CHFT for a part time specialist midwife who is passionate about supporting pregnant woman’s mental health and wellbeing. The post holder will work alongside our Perinatal Mental Health Nurse to lead and co-ordinate together with partner agencies to support the care of women experiencing perinatal mental health difficulties.

The primary aim of this post will be to improve outcomes for women, their babies, and the wider family, through personalised care planning and support. Recognising the importance of the parent infant relationship. The Post holder will also play a key role in providing expert advice, support and training to midwives and other health professionals involved in caring for women in this group.

The post holder will provide advice and support to colleagues delivering maternity care in both the primary and secondary settings for women experiencing perinatal mental health and complex needs. This will include a range of health education, support and social care advice relating to these specific issues.

The post holder with support from partner agencies will also have a key role in the transformation to a trauma informed maternity service.

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS – yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members – patients, staff and the local community.

Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.
