An exciting and interesting opportunity is available for a suitably qualified Clinical, Counselling or Health psychologist to join the Renal Medicine Psychology team within the Clinical Health Psychology Department at Salford Royal Hospital.

Join a very well-established renal psychology team providing psychological input to patients suffering from end stage renal failure including patients who are on dialysis as well as patients with a kidney transplant. The post holder will be expected to offer expertise at a senior level in this exciting field of Clinical Health Psychology. Team working will be integral to the role, including involvement in MDT meetings and regular liaison, teaching, and joint working with professional colleagues to support the wider medical/nursing team in relation to psychological aspects of care.

The post holder will offer high quality leadership to more junior colleagues within the renal psychology team including Clinical/Counselling Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Trainee Psychologist’s alongside undertaking complex clinical work. The role will also include providing high quality consultation, leadership and clinical input to the renal dialysis population with a particular focus on complex trauma presentations and medical compliance difficulties. Involvement in research relating to psychological aspects of renal care will also be a focus of the role.

It would be advantageous if the post holder was experienced in ACT, CFT, CBT and EMDR as these are the therapeutic approaches most often suited to this population as well as having a good understanding and knowledge of the principles and practices of Trauma Informed Care.

Flexible working is available, including some working from home within the job plan if the applicant desires this.

Enthusiasm and commitment are essential as are excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

A commitment to the provision of evidence-based health care in the field of renal psychology is essential as is the ability to offer high quality clinical supervision to more junior psychology colleagues. A good understanding of medical compliance issues and psychological adjustment to invasive medical procedures would be helpful as well as an ability to work with complex health related psychological presentations involving risk.
