Your New Role:
As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals with learning disabilities to live fulfilling and independent lives. You will provide personal care, support with daily activities, and help individuals develop essential life skills.



What You Will Need to Succeed:
Essential Requirements:Communication:



  • Patience and empathy.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Capability to speak on behalf of others and communicate with a range of professionals.

  • Strong communication skills adaptable to various situations.

  • Willingness to learn new methods of communication.



Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience:



  • Understanding of homemaking skills.

  • Commitment to obtaining a QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).

  • Previous experience in a care or support role.

  • Experience working with people with learning disabilities.

  • Knowledge of the local area.



Skills and Abilities:



  • Ability to carry out normal household tasks.

  • Capability to teach and coach homemaking skills.

  • Ability to support individuals with intimate personal care with dignity and respect.

  • Literacy skills (minimum Entry Level 3) to read and act on information.

  • Basic IT skills (minimum Entry Level 1) for record-keeping and information retrieval.

  • Strong negotiation and guidance skills.

  • Good written skills to record events with empathy and meaning.

  • Good observational skills.

  • Ability to work to consistent standards.

  • Decision-making skills and ability to follow through.

  • Evidence of creative and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage and record finances (minimum Entry Level 3 in Numeracy).

Other Requirements:



  • A valid driving licence, use of own vehicle, and appropriate level of insurance (MOT and road tax).



Desirable:



  • Experience using alternative methods of communication.

  • Ability to speak Welsh (essential in some service locations).
