About the Employer

This post is temporary to cover maternity leave, which will be discussed further at interview. We are looking for someone to help with the care of my husband, he has motor neurone disease and due to his lack of mobility requires support with every aspect of day to day life. We are a family with teenagers and require someone who is friendly, kind and willing to learn. We can offer a happy and relaxed work environment along with a degree of flexibility.

Employer Disability and Health Conditions:

• Mobility / Physical
• Advanced motor neuron disease, full paralysis.

Other relevant information:

• The individual is a smoker.

About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
• Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
• Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
• Ensure that essential equipment such as hoist is charged and ready to use.
• Take phone calls and pass on accurate messages. May at times need to talk with health professionals.

The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.

You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.

Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

Transport Requirement:

Car driver and car owner – must have business insurance.

• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.

• Previous caring experience is essential.
• Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.

• Have a lively personality.
• To be able to fit in with our family routines and to be able to demonstrate empathy, understanding that this is a family home.

Required Training:

Successful candidates are required to undertake any training that is considered necessary and appropriate to the role.

• Moving and Handling. PA must already hold relevant qualification.
• First Aid. PA must already hold relevant qualification.
• Peg Feed. Training will be provided by the employer.
• My husband is fully reliant on non invasive ventilation and cannot breathe without it. Training will be provided by us for the successful applicant.

When you are Required:

Hours per week: 37.5

• Monday, 8.00am to 3.30pm
• Tuesday, 8.00am to 3.30pm
• Wednesday, 8.00am to 3.30pm
• Thursday, 8.00am to 3.30pm
• Friday, 8.00am to 3.30 pm

Dates and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
