We are inviting applications from dynamic Clinical or Counselling psychologists to join our well-established and respected multidisciplinary HIV, Sexual Health and Sexual Problems services. We are particularly interested to receive applications from psychologists with experience in or relevant to the specialism of HIV, sexual health and psychosexual difficulties.

The role offers a broad range of opportunities including the provision of individual and group therapy to people experiencing sexual health related difficulties, supervision and consultation to MDT colleagues, teaching, as well as service development. The role would suit psychologists who are passionate about supporting people who have experienced social and political marginalisation. It provides opportunities to work critically and systemically with themes including the impact of social stigma and intersectional identities.

The successful candidate/s will be joining a team of experienced psychologists, passionate about delivering high quality and innovative HIV and sexual health services. The team was shortlisted for Team of the Year at CNWL's Therapies Awards in 2023.

The successful candidates will be supported in their professional development with access to high quality CPD from CNWL 's psychological workforce development. The post holders will receive clinical supervision from an experienced senior psychologist and line management from the lead psychologist.
• To provide specialist psychological and psychosexual assessments of clients referred to the psychology service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including self-report measures, rating scales and semi-structured interviews with clients and others involved in their care.
• To formulate and implement treatment and/or management plans of clients’ psychological and psychosexual difficulties, employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
• To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals and couples, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon evidence-based psychological models and approaches.
• To provide specialist advice and consultation and supervision to psychology and MDT colleagues and other people involved in client’s care, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. Part of the role may include staff support, providing debriefs and regular reflective practice to teams, as well as MDT teaching.
• To contribute to routine data collection, audit and evaluation of patient measures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development.
• To maintain relevant professional registration and individual Accreditation. To comply with HCPC, UKCP, BPC and other relevant professional Accreditation bodies’ Codes of Practice.

CNWL is responsible for the provision of primary and secondary mental health care, as well as specialist services in addictions, sexual health, prisons, intellectual disabilities, perinatal mental health, acute wards and physical health to diverse populations across London, Milton Keynes and Surrey.

1. Clinical
• To provide specialist psychological and psychosexual assessments of clients, together with their partners and carers as appropriate, using interview, formal psychometric and other assessment methods as appropriate.
• To formulate and devise psychological and psychosexual treatment and management plans for referred clients and to provide psychological treatment, using a range of specialist psychological interventions appropriate to the service.
• To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation and supervision to colleagues and other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients.
• To provide specialist consultation and guidance to colleagues and other professionals on psychological/psychosexual intervention.
• To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients.
• To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients.
1. Teaching, training, and supervision
• To receive regular clinical professional supervision from a senior clinical psychologist and, where appropriate, other senior professional colleagues.
• To provide clinical placements for trainee clinical psychologists, as required, ensuring the trainees acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to health care, and to contribute to the assessment and evaluation of such competencies. To provide clinical supervision of trainee psychologists and psychosexual therapy trainees as required.
• To continue to develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and clinical supervision.
• To provide advice, consultation, training and supervision to other health and social care staff working with the client group (e.g. nurses, doctors, psychologists) and within the trust, as appropriate.
• To contribute to teaching and training of psychologists and other health professionals within and outside of the service.
1. Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development
• To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the service’s operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
• To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need to be addressed.
• To manage the workloads of trainee psychologists and psychosexual therapists, within the framework of the service’s policies and procedures.
1. Research and service evaluation
• To use theory, evidence-based literature and research to support and critique evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
• To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.
• To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop and evaluate service provision.
1. General
• To ensure the development and maintenance of the highest personal standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholder’s professional and service manager(s).
• To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology within the service area, by exercising the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.
• To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the HCPC and Trust policies and procedures.
• To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues of relevance to the service and client group.
• To undertake such other duties and responsibilities, appropriate to the grade of the post, as may be agreed with the Lead Psychologist for HIV and Sexual Health.
