JOB DESCRIPTION

Casual Personal Assistant

A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am a 55 year old man living with my son and my dog in the Ferndale area. I am a very social and talkative man and am known to go off on tangents during conversations and it can be hard to stop me talking once I get going on a subject.

I am also very family oriented and live for my son, daughter and my grandchildren and would do anything for them.

I am a wheelchair user and have a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. I am looking for a PA to help improve my quality of life and support me in getting out of the house every week to try new things.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Looking for a casual/cover PA to work while my main PA is on holidays etc. My hours contain a social and personal care aspect.

The social care aspect will aim to get me out into the community to try new activities and most importantly to get a break from being stuck in my house looking at the same four walls.

The personal care aspect will aim to support me with my morning routine and to help me with washing and transferring etc.

HOURS OF WORK

I have 13 hours per week available.

7 hours for personal care which will be an hour each morning.

6 hours for social care which will be used in 2/3 shifts per week and these can be used flexibly.

I also have an extra 12 hours every 3 Months to be used to help me visit my family from Blackpool. We would meet them halfway.

RATES OF PAY

£13.10 per hour

TASKS CAN INCLUDE

· Social care role:

o Taking me out in my adapted vehicle to try activities.

o Assisted wall climbing.

o Wheelchair archery.

o Going fishing.

o Thinking of new activities we can do together.

o Simple things like taking me out for a walk locally.

· Personal care role:

o Supporting me with my morning routine.

o Helping me up and using the return aid to help me transfer into my wheelchair.

o Assisting me with showering and cleaning up the bathroom after the shower. This will be mopping the floor.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

· A sociable and chatty person.

· A reliable and punctual person.

· An understanding person.

· Experience with moving and handling will be desirable.

· A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone else’s home.

ABOUT THE JOB

This will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period of six months will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid four-weekly on return of a payslip provided by the Centre for Independent Living. You will receive appropriate holidays and holiday pay.
