The Work, Health and Skills Team in Economic Affairs have two vacancies for Work and Skills Advisers to support the work, health and skills agenda. Supporting the economy and our residents is more crucial than ever and never has the co-dependency of work and health been more apparent.
The successful applicants will be part of the Get Rochdale Working team. They will have a good understanding of the work and skills offer across the Rochdale Borough. This will enable them to guide residents to the right support at the right time. They will utilise social media to engage with residents and will work closely and receive referrals from a wide range of partners including; council staff, police, social housing providers, NHS, public health, social care and drug and alcohol professionals. They will help people to change their behaviours and to improve their lives. The ideal candidates will require an empathetic approach and an ability to identify someone’s potential. They will be able to encourage residents to build on their skills and to raise their aspirations.
This post will require someone with a good awareness of the work and skills landscape in Rochdale, excellent communication, digital and organisational skills in order to manage a caseload and reach their KPI’s, whilst maintaining an excellent level of support, keeping the resident’s goals at the centre of what we do and being flexible in the way we work.
The team, work at both borough wide and neighbourhood levels, coordinating the work and skills offer and embedding it in the wider offer of the council and our partners. They will engage with businesses and make sure both young people and adults benefit from these opportunities. They will ensure appropriate support is available for some of the most marginalised people in our communities.
Rochdale Council is a Cooperative Council, which involves changes in how it delivers its services, involving residents more in the decision making process and working, thinking and acting more co-operatively as a council and borough for, ultimately, the benefit of the people and the place. This will be more important than ever going forward with more partnership opportunities being developed to help improve the lives of our residents.
The first post is for our generic single access point, which involves dealing with a large number of residents of all ages, those employed, unemployed and self-employed, conducting holistic needs assessments, in order to identify the right support from structured programmes, suitable training courses and relevant job vacancies.
The second post will work intensively with a small caseload of residents who are in low paid work or unstable work, in order to raise aspirations, support them to upskill and progress into another role either within their current organisation or to enable them to apply for higher level roles.
These opportunities are a chance to work in an innovative way by offering advice about the most appropriate options and understanding the barriers people face. This role involves coaching and motivating residents during a difficult time on their employment journey to succeed in achieving their goals or accessing the right provision.
