Job objectives and responsibilities
The role involves holding day-to-day responsibility for the onsite team, including all Stores, Grounds, and landscape service delivery. You will ensure schedules and programs of work are adhered to and delivered to a high quality, maintaining consistent standards. Meeting contractual requirements, including regular quality audits, is essential. Building and maintaining strong client relationships is a key part of the role. You will also maintain budgetary control on materials and equipment.
Leading, motivating, and developing staff and prisoners using available skills and resources is crucial. Identifying developmental needs, setting objectives, and evaluating training performance for all activities undertaken are part of your responsibilities. Effective management of employees and prisoners to their potential is expected.
You will manage, monitor, and control absence, ensuring correct staffing levels, including arranging cover for staff holidays and sickness. Adhering to health and safety policies and maintaining all appropriate documentation, such as risk assessments and method statements, is required. Finally, ensuring all HR processes are followed and all employees are treated in line with Mitie policy and current legislation is a must.
The site is a 24-hour 365-day operation, and the expectation is that the engineering team will work to a shift rota pattern and offer out of hours call out functions.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will possess a BICSc Certificate in Cleaning Supervision and have basic to intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.They should be capable of building strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders and have similar managerial experience. The ability to multitask, work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and use their own initiative is essential.
Being a team player with a strong written and verbal communication style, and the ability to adapt their style to meet the needs of different business units, is important. The candidate should be able to work autonomously and make their own decisions, with a flexible and adaptable approach to their workload. An excellent track record in customer service, self-development, and motivation is required.
Problem-solving skills, including the ability to use initiative and lateral thinking, are necessary. Knowledge of HR and HSE, along with strong planning and organizational skills, is expected. The candidate should be innovative and forward-thinking.
